Faculty Profile: Dennis Bishop, Motion Picture Production Chair

bishopBefore Dennis Bishop arrived, KD Conservatory had already established a reputation for itself as a premier educational institution for aspiring actors in stage and film. What KD Conservatory’s degree programs lacked, however, was a program for those whose passion in the film industry was for a career behind the scenes. That’s where Dennis Bishop came in. He joined KD Conservatory’s faculty in June of 2009 with the goal of creating a degree program for those interested in pursuing a career in film production. In the fall of 2009, the first classes in KD Conservatory’s Motion Picture Production degree program began, and the program was officially established. Since that time, Bishop has led the program as it has grown and expanded. He currently serves as Motion Picture Production Chair in addition to teaching classes within the program.

Professional Accomplishments

Throughout his impressive and distinguished career, which included a number of years as Vice President of Production for HBO Pictures, Bishop has been involved in working on numerous award-winning and critically acclaimed projects. He has overseen production for such works as the Academy Award winning The Trip to Bountiful, NASCAR: The IMAX 3D Experience, and the pilot episode for the Showtime hit series, Dexter.

Community Involvement

Throughout his career, Bishop has made giving back to the film community – and to the Texas film community, in particular – a major priority. This is evidenced by his extensive involvement in various groups and organizations serving in roles that include active member of the Producers Guild of America, Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, and Directors Guild of America; board member of the Dallas Producers Association; and volunteering his time in various volunteer positions in film festivals and organizations both in Texas and around the country.

While Bishop is actively involved in supporting the film community as a whole, the Dallas native is particularly passionate about giving back to the film community within Texas. In fact, his efforts were recently recognized as he was honored with the Lone Star Film Festival Commitment to Texas Award this past November.
