For the second year in a row, Ballroom Marfa presented The Reading, an event that staged one winner of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ annual Nicholl Fellowship for screenwriting. This year, KD Conservatory’s own John S. Davies, along with a cast full of KD Conservatory students and alumni, brought the chosen script to the local stage – Cutter, by up-and-coming writer Dion Cook.
On April 21 at Ballroom Marfa, the actors took the stage to tell the story of a trauma physician, who survived the 1994 Rwandan genocide and immigrated to Miami. The emotionally powerful piece featured KD Conservatory students, including:
– Krystal Green
– Kennith Burns
– Divine Doh
– Lamoria Strong
– Kiel Williams
– Brittanee Bailey
– Austin Odima
The two performances of the reading were followed by panel discussions, featuring the screenwriter and other important members of the project.
From all of us here at KD Conservatory, we congratulate our students and faculty for their involvement in bringing this piece to life.
